E-Commerce Websites for Local Businesses
Sell your products online without the complexity of platforms built for Amazon-scale operations. Custom online stores designed for local businesses, with real support from real people.
You do not need to be Amazon to sell online
When most people think of e-commerce, they picture massive operations with warehouses full of inventory and thousands of daily orders. But e-commerce is not just for big retailers. Local businesses across Tampa Bay are discovering that selling online, even on a small scale, can be a meaningful revenue stream.
A bakery in St. Petersburg that takes custom cake orders online. A boutique in Hyde Park that ships handmade jewelry to customers who discovered them on Instagram. A pet supply store in Clearwater that lets regulars reorder their dog food without driving to the store. These are all e-commerce use cases, and none of them require enterprise-level infrastructure.
The problem is that most e-commerce platforms are built for scale, not simplicity. Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce all come with dozens of features that a small business will never use but still has to navigate around. The dashboard is overwhelming, the setup is confusing, and before long, you are spending more time managing your online store than actually running your business.
At St Pete Sites, we build e-commerce solutions that match your actual needs. If you sell 10 products, we build a store for 10 products, not a platform designed to handle 10,000. The result is a clean, fast, easy-to-manage online store that your customers actually enjoy using.
What We Build
E-commerce features that matter for local businesses
We build online stores with the features you actually need, without the complexity you do not.
Custom Product Pages
Beautiful product pages with high-quality images, detailed descriptions, pricing, variants (size, color, etc.), and clear add-to-cart buttons. Every page is designed to convert browsers into buyers.
Secure Checkout
PCI-compliant checkout powered by Stripe or Shopify Payments. Credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Your customers checkout with confidence and their payment info stays secure.
Inventory Management
Track stock levels, get low-inventory alerts, and automatically mark products as sold out. For Shopify stores, manage everything from a simple admin dashboard. For simpler setups, just text us changes.
Shipping and Fulfillment
Flat-rate shipping, weight-based rates, local pickup, and free shipping thresholds. We configure shipping options that match how your business actually operates. No unnecessary complexity.
Order Management
Email notifications for new orders, order status tracking, and fulfillment workflows. Everything you need to process orders efficiently without getting buried in admin work.
Mobile Shopping Experience
Over 70% of online shopping now happens on phones. Every store we build is mobile-first, with touch-friendly navigation, fast-loading product images, and a checkout flow that works perfectly on small screens.
Platform
Shopify integration for businesses that need it
For businesses with larger product catalogs or complex inventory needs, we integrate with Shopify. It is the most reliable and well-supported e-commerce platform available, and it handles the heavy lifting of payment processing, inventory tracking, and order management exceptionally well.
But here is the key difference between what we do and what you get if you just sign up for Shopify on your own. A standard Shopify store uses a template theme that looks like every other Shopify store. We build a custom storefront that connects to Shopify on the backend. You get Shopify's powerful admin tools with a completely unique, high-performance front-end that actually represents your brand.
This means your store loads faster than a typical Shopify theme, looks nothing like the default Shopify templates, and is built with the same performance and SEO focus we bring to every project. The backend is Shopify. The customer-facing experience is entirely custom.
Not every business needs Shopify though. If you sell a handful of products or just need to accept online orders, we can build a simpler e-commerce solution that does not require a separate platform subscription. We will help you figure out the right approach based on your actual needs, not based on what generates the biggest commission for us.
Payments
Payment processing that your customers trust
Stripe
Our recommended payment processor for most businesses. Low transaction fees (2.9% + 30 cents), excellent fraud detection, and seamless integration. Supports credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and bank transfers. Funds are deposited directly into your bank account on a rolling basis.
Shopify Payments
For Shopify-integrated stores, Shopify Payments eliminates additional transaction fees and integrates natively with the admin dashboard. It is the simplest option if you are already on the Shopify platform.
Square
If your business already uses Square for in-person sales, we can integrate Square online payments so your in-store and online transactions sync in one system. Great for businesses that have both a physical location and an online store.
PayPal
Some customers prefer PayPal, especially for higher-value purchases where buyer protection matters. We can add PayPal as an additional payment option alongside your primary processor.
Product photography tips that actually make a difference
The single biggest factor in whether someone buys from your online store is the product photos. You do not need a professional photographer or expensive equipment, but you do need to follow a few basic principles.
Natural lighting is everything. Shoot near a window during the day. Avoid harsh overhead lights and camera flash, which create unflattering shadows and washed-out colors. Natural, diffused light makes almost any product look better.
Use a clean, consistent background. White or light gray backgrounds work for most products. A simple poster board from the dollar store works perfectly. The goal is to make the product the star, not the background.
Show multiple angles. Customers cannot pick up and examine your product online, so give them the next best thing. Front, back, side, close-up of details, and at least one lifestyle shot showing the product in use. Three to five images per product is the sweet spot.
Phone cameras are fine. A modern iPhone or Android phone takes photos that are more than good enough for an online store. The camera is not the bottleneck. Lighting, angles, and consistency matter far more than having a $3,000 DSLR.
We optimize every product image for web performance, converting them to modern formats and compressing them without visible quality loss. Your products look great without slowing down your site.

Get a Free QuoteTraditional e-commerce development can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000 or more for a custom online store. That is a massive investment for a small business that does not know yet how much revenue online sales will generate.
Our approach is different. We start with what you actually need and scale from there. A basic e-commerce setup with a handful of products starts at $99/mo. More complex stores with Shopify integration, advanced inventory management, or hundreds of products may require a custom quote.

FAQ
E-commerce website design questions
How much does an e-commerce website cost?
E-commerce websites at St Pete Sites start at $99 per month with a 12-month commitment. This covers custom design, hosting, SSL, and basic e-commerce functionality. Stores with full Shopify integration, advanced inventory management, or large product catalogs may have different pricing. Text us for a specific quote based on your needs.
Do I need a full e-commerce store or just online ordering?
It depends on your business. If you sell physical products with multiple variants, sizes, and inventory to track, a full e-commerce setup makes sense. If you just need to accept orders or appointments online, a simpler integration into your website may be all you need. We help you figure out the right approach.
What payment processors do you integrate with?
We work with Stripe, Square, PayPal, and Shopify Payments. We recommend Stripe for most businesses because of its low transaction fees, strong fraud protection, and seamless integration. We handle the entire setup and make sure everything is PCI compliant.
Can I manage my own products and inventory?
Yes. For Shopify-integrated stores, you get access to their admin dashboard to manage products, inventory, orders, and shipping. For simpler setups, you can text us product changes and we handle everything for you. Either way, your store stays current.
Do you build on Shopify or WooCommerce?
We work with Shopify for e-commerce because it is the most reliable, secure, and well-supported platform for small business online stores. We do not use WooCommerce because it runs on WordPress, which introduces security vulnerabilities, plugin maintenance issues, and performance overhead that most small businesses do not need.
